We envision a new class of RF (Radio Frequency) passive and flexible sensing labels, potentially biodegradable, operating at microwave and mm-wave frequencies which embed information in terms of codes and sensed quantities in their backscattering electromagnetic response. The labels rely on tiny and completely passive resonators attached, printed, or directly integrated into objects or human body to be wirelessly monitored from a distance ranging from few cm to more than 1 m.
The labels can sense mechanical variations (pressure and strain) as well as environmental variation (temperature and humidity) or chemical variations (gases and PH) through the monitoring of their frequency response.
