The award for the development of a software package that allows to limit the use of computer memory for programs that must process files of enormous size.
To Nicola Tonellotto, professor of Information Processing Systems at DII, the Best Demo Honorable Mention at ECIR 2024, the European Conference on Information Retrieval, which took place in Glasgow at the end of March.
The awarded work is "indxr: A Python Library for Indexing File Lines", in which the indxr software is developed, a library that allows the retrieval of information from enormous text files with a significant saving of memory. This allows programs, such as those that train neural networks used in search engines, to be able to run even on machines with limited memory.
